Tracking utilises a dog’s natural ability to follow a scent trail left behind by a person or animal. Dogs work in partnership with their handler, following a scent trail across different terrains, environments, and weather conditions. It’s a collaborative process that relies on communication, trust, and careful handling.
Most tracking dogs are seen in dog sports or voluntary roles, but you may also have come across operational tracking dogs working in real-world settings, such as: police tracking dogs locating fugitives, pack hounds used in drag or trail hunting, Working Trials, IGP/IPO trials, Mantrailing and lost dog tracking.
